Tale
This documentary chronicles the lives of a group of young Egyptian girls from a small, very conservative village in Upper Egypt who form an all-female acting troupe despite family rejection. An excellent short film and documentary by Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir; In a remote village in southern Egypt or Upper Egypt, a group of girls rebel against their own family’s strict traditions by forming an all-female street theater troupe, but are ridiculed for it. The girls simply dreamed of becoming actresses, dancers, and singers like so many Egyptians in Lower Egypt, defying their own religious and conservative families with their unexpected performances. The short film was shot over a four-year period to capture different periods in the girls’ lives. The Brink of Dreams follows them from childhood to adulthood, and all while facing the most crucial choices of their lives.
